Recently, the entire staff village at NWR’s Sesriem Camp was destroyed by a devastating fire, leaving employees without homes, belongings or means to rebuild their livelihoods. Tragically, a two-year-old boy lost his life in the blaze.
In response, Ms. Toni Hart—one of Namibia’s most experienced national guides—immediately launched a donation drive and reached out to the wider tourism community for urgent support.
The Lions Club Windhoek Alte Feste quickly offered second-hand clothing, but it soon became clear that the affected families required far more, particularly basic toiletries and hygiene products.
Within just two days, the Lions Club had organised essential supplies including men’s and women’s toiletries, washing soap, toilet paper, hygiene items and nappies. Meanwhile, Ms. Hart coordinated transport, logistics and storage at Sesriem, and obtained quotes for fundamental clothing items such as underwear, face cloths and towels.
To date, N$40,000 has already been spent on emergency relief with funds donated by various organisations, and further necessities will be purchased in the coming weeks. The first consignment of aid arrived on Sunday, 7 December 2025.
The Sesriem community are extremely appreciative for all donations received to date.
