Recently, the entire staff village at NWR’s Sesriem Camp was destroyed by a devastating fire, leaving employees without homes, belongings or means to rebuild their livelihoods. Tragically, a two-year-old boy lost his life in the blaze.

In response, Ms. Toni Hart—one of Namibia’s most experienced national guides—immediately launched a donation drive and reached out to the wider tourism community for urgent support.

The Lions Club Windhoek Alte Feste quickly offered second-hand clothing, but it soon became clear that the affected families required far more, particularly basic toiletries and hygiene products.

Within just two days, the Lions Club had organised essential supplies including men’s and women’s toiletries, washing soap, toilet paper, hygiene items and nappies. Meanwhile, Ms. Hart coordinated transport, logistics and storage at Sesriem, and obtained quotes for fundamental clothing items such as underwear, face cloths and towels.

To date, N$40,000 has already been spent on emergency relief with funds donated by various organisations, and further necessities will be purchased in the coming weeks. The first consignment of aid arrived on Sunday, 7 December 2025.

The Sesriem community are extremely appreciative for all donations received to date.

From June to September 2024, we launched our annual Lions Hunger Campaign, and thanks to your incredible generosity, we made a real difference! Together, we collected an amazing array of soup products—lentils, split peas, beans, rice, and more—at our Lions donation box at the SuperSpar Mareua Windhoek.

These donations are now being used by local schools to provide meals for the children, ensuring they receive the nutrition they need.

A heartfelt thank you to our generous donors, including Frans Indongo Toyota and Lions Club Stormarn for their support in purchasing bulk food items.

We also embraced sustainability by collecting empty glass jars, turning them into colorful soup jars filled with nutritious ingredients. With 150 jars prepared, we were able to feed 252 people in our community, including three local kindergartens and an old age home.

Thank you for standing with us in the fight against hunger! Your support has truly made an impact!

”Children, Love Your Eyes”

In a heartfelt collaboration with the NOA aimed at transforming lives, the Lions Club proudly announces the success of its 2024 Vision Service Project. This initiative, in partnership with local optometrists, provided essential vision screenings for 17 children and one adult in our community, ensuring that clear sight is accessible to everyone.

The vision screenings, conducted at no cost to the Lions Club, allowed our team to identify critical vision needs among the participants. After thorough testing, it was determined that 11 children required spectacles to support their learning and everyday activities, while one adult was in need of reading glasses.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our dedicated collaborators who volunteered their time and expertise to perform these vital screenings. Their commitment to our community has made a significant impact, enabling us to provide the necessary eye care at a fraction of the usual costs. Thanks to their generosity, we were able to acquire high-quality frames and lenses that were both affordable and accessible for our Lions Club.

The culmination of this project saw all participating children receive their new spectacles, allowing them to embrace the world with clearer vision. Additionally, the adult carer received her much-needed reading glasses, enhancing her ability to support her family.

This project exemplifies the Lions Club’s mission of serving our community and addressing critical health needs. By ensuring that individuals can see clearly, we empower them to participate fully in their education, work, and daily lives.

As we reflect on this successful initiative, we are reminded of the powerful difference that community collaboration can make. We look forward to continuing our efforts in vision health and other vital services, reinforcing our commitment to a brighter future.

Thank you to everyone who made this project possible. Together, we are making strides toward a world where everyone can see clearly and thrive.

Early April DC Lance Maytham and his partner Rosemarie visited the Namibian clubs in District 410W. It was a pleasure to welcome them in our club house where a joint meeting with the Windhoek Lions Club was held, after which banners were exchanged.

Five members of our club attended MD410 “Celebration Convention”, held in Cape Town from 27-29 April, a great experience to meet fellow Lions from the vast MD410 of Southern Africa.

Our hosting of the popular Bio/Green Market Café on the Mothers Day weekend was again a great fundraising success.

In our ongoing project, another 4 children of the Lions and Rotary houses at the SOS Children Village celebrated their birthdays and received birthday cakes and snack hampers.

We welcomed Lion members from our twinning club LC Stormarn, Hamburg/Germany who toured Namibia with their partners & friends, at which occasion they also visited a few projects, which they had previously supported with funds.

In line with LCI’s Centennial Challenge “Relieving the Hunger” we donated 100 “Easy Meals” packets, a dehydrated nutritious meal of 12 servings per packet, to the “Wake-Up! Early Education Center” and “Bright Star Kindergarten”, who, respectively feed 80 and 40 children daily.

We donated a concrete mixer to the “Dagbreek School for mentally impaired children” which will be used for a brick making project at the school’s Aftercare Centre, where, under supervision, school leavers between the ages of 19-21 can engage in creative activities and learn practical skills to prepare them for future employment. The casting moulds were donated by the Windhoek Lions Club.

Our club was still in recess during January, but in February we were back in action with two activities:

  • On the 18th we kicked off with our quarterly fundraising activity by serving the public with our well known spread of cakes and topped “Brötchen” (buns) at the Bio/Green Market Morning Cafê.
  • We delighted in bringing joy to yet another orphan child, residing in the “Rotary” house at the SOS Children Village by presenting a birthday cake and party goodies to a 13 year old boy.
